Thank you to the almost 500 residents who have signed the Hinksey Park Labour Team’s petition for a safe pedestrian crossing at the junction of Abingdon Road and Weirs Lane.

Local resident and community campaigner, Siobhan Lancaster presented our petition to Oxfordshire County Council at its last meeting on Tuesday 9th September. Whilst Siobhan received a lot of support in the room from sympathetic Councillors, we were told that making the crossing safe would not be an immediate priority.

This is completely unacceptable. On a daily basis, South Oxford residents are being forced to chance it in order to cross the road to visit Tesco’s. The junction’s complex layout means this is not easily done at the best at times, but is particularly challenging for children, older residents and those with mobility difficulties.

That’s why we are continuing to press the County Council to make this junction safe. Please continue to share the petition with your friends and neighbours – www.change.org/AbingdonRoadTescosCrossing

You can share your daily experiences of this dangerous junction with Lib Dem Transport Chief, Cllr Andrew Gant at andrew.gant@oxfordshire.gov.uk. Cllr Gant continues to oppose safety improvements at this key junction.
