It’s official! Labour has stayed in control of Oxford City Council following the recent election on 7 May 2026.
Labour holds the most seats, and won the most seats out of any party in May. The new composition of Oxford City Council is Labour (20), Green (13), Lib Dem (9), Independent Oxford Alliance (4), Independent (2).
We are pleased that we have reached an agreement with the Lib Dems and Greens on a way forward that provides stability for Oxford and a smooth transition to a new authority.
"Labour will continue leading the City Council as a minority administration so we can keep working hard for everyone who lives and works in our amazing city, all year round.” - Susan Brown, Leader of City Labour Group
Cllr Susan Brown says: “The Cabinet will continue to deliver on the City Council’s priorities of tackling the high cost of living in Oxford, through our campaign to extend the Oxford Living Wage and building affordable housing, and making Oxford a great place to live by tackling anti-social behaviour with our new Community Wardens, as well as looking after our neighbourhoods through our free bulky waste collection to tackle fly-tipping and our increased verge cutting.”
“Above all, we want to make sure that Oxford’s strong and growing economy is working for all of Oxford’s citizens. As a cabinet, we will continue to work with Oxford’s diverse communities and businesses to support their needs. Oxford is a great place to live, work and do business, and we want everyone to feel proud of their neighbourhood. That is what we are striving to achieve.”
