Here are some of Oxford Labour’s biggest wins so far:
We’re the ONLY local authority in all of Oxfordshire to own and manage our own council homes.
We’re leading the BIGGEST council housebuilding programme in our city since the 1970s.
We’re enforcing the HIGHEST proportion of social housing on larger developments in the country.
We’re the FIRST city in Britain to require all private landlords to hold a licence to improve standards and protect renters.
Our HOUSING FIRST approach to homelessness means rough sleepers don’t need to ‘prove’ they’re ready to get support and a home to call their own.
Working with residents and trade unions, we introduced the OXFORD LIVING WAGE to reflect the real cost of living in our city – 192+ businesses are now signed up.
We raise funds to support local services. By setting up our own companies Oxford Direct Services (ODS) and OXPlace, we can keep services IN-HOUSE, sell them to businesses, and reinvest any profit right back into council services.
We support local jobs, apprenticeships, small businesses, and social enterprises, and invest our funds ETHICALLY.
We’re one of the ONLY councils that still offer full Council Tax relief for residents on very low incomes.
We give £500,000 A YEAR to fund our excellent local advice centres to support local residents with the cost of living and problems like debt and social security.
We were the FIRST city to hold a Citizens’ Assembly on Climate Change in 2019.
We’re working hard to make the council carbon neutral, cutting our emissions a record 5 YEARS IN A ROW.
We’re INSULATING council homes, switching to ELECTRIC bin lorries, installing HEAT PUMPS in our swimming pools, and swapping to LED lights, solar car ports, and energy efficient showers at our leisure centres.
Redbridge Park & Ride has Europe’s MOST powerful EV charging station.
We CREATED and still own leisure and community centres, parks, and allotments all over Oxford – and we’re constantly improving them.
We have dedicated CHAMPIONS working to support small businesses, cycling, live music, events, and our nighttime economy.
We’ve kept our AWARD-WINNING Youth Ambition programme to support young people while other councils cut services.
