On the morning of Friday 12th September, the County Highways Chief visited Littlemore to meet with Cllr Tiago Corais, fellow councillors, and local residents to discuss the ongoing traffic disruption in the area.
This comes after Cllr Tiago Corais invited the Cabinet Member for Transport Management, Cllr Andrew Gant, and country traffic officers to see the state of Littlemore’s road for themselves.
Although peak traffic congestion began just as the visit came to an end, Cllr Tiago Corais shared video evidence of the full extent of the traffic, with cars coming to a complete standstill all along Sandford Road.
Cllr Tiago Corais said: “It’s about time that Oxfordshire County Council listens to Littlemore. Thank you to all the residents who came out to speak directly with Cllr Andrew Gant about the hardship that the Oxford Road closure has been causing to our community. I will keep working with residents to push for a solution to this traffic chaos.”
Littlemore residents seized the opportunity to raise a number of transport concerns on Friday morning, including:
- Repainting white lines on Cowley Road in Littlemore to prevent dangerous parking
- Safety issues at the Newman Road junction
- Long-term traffic pressure on Oxford Road
- Mixed views on Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs)
- Ring Road delays due to traffic
- Parking issues and traffic on Sandford Road during school hours
Cllr Tiago Corais added: “The County Council have now gone away to do a full analysis of the traffic and find practical solutions. And they have committed to coming back to Littlemore to work with us and come up with a long-term plan. As your local councillor, I’m now putting together a proposal. My top priority is for Littlemore residents’ voices to be at the heart of this process. If you live in Littlemore, please get in touch with me to share your experiences and ideas about how to keep Littlemore moving.”

Oxford Road in Littlemore is scheduled to be closed between Dudgeon Drive and Littlemore Roundabout from 1st September until 22nd September.
This is due to infrastructure upgrades by Energetic Electricity, involving the installation of high-voltage ducts to reinforce the local power network.
Cllr Tiago Corais has shared a short video documenting the congestion from Cowley Road to Newman Road to support the case: https://youtu.be/A9osD4CyO8g?si=Zd8xdziRMCDMBL7C\
