A pledge to enforce the new Renters' Rights Act!
Dear neighbours, the Renters Reform Coalition, a national coalition of housing charities and campaign groups advocating for stronger rights and protections for private renters across the UK, kindlyasked me to sign their petition to enforce the new Renters' Rights Act, expand landlord licensing in Oxford and protect tenants from criminal practices in the housing market. I have very happily signed it.In my view, there is currently a significant power imbalance between landlords and renters, with many tenants having very limited bargaining power.
As a renter in Oxford myself, and a member of the Oxford Renters’ Union, I very strongly support measures to protect this (our) group.
The Renters’ Rights Act is a major step forward, and I fully back its proper enforcement. I also support expanding landlord licensing in Oxford—much like my call to regulate short-term holiday lets—and taking firm action to protect renters from criminal practices in housing, which is a basic need.
